Margaret L. Traxel

July 6, 1921 — November 4, 2015

Ava- Margaret L. Traxel, 94, widow of Gordon, a longtime resident of the Town of Ava, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville. She was born in Ava on July 6, 1921, a daughter of Carl H. and Lillian Roser Kappler. In 1938, she moved with her family to West Leyden, where she completed her education graduating from West Leyden Central School with the Class of 1940. She was employed at Nelson's Department Store in Rome. During WWII, Margaret was employed by Rome Cable Co., where she inspected air craft cables. On June 12, 1946 Margaret was united in marriage with Gordon Traxel at the Clinton United Methodist Church. This was a blessed union of over 68 years. Following their marriage the couple settled in Ava on the Traxel homestead farm which they continued to operate for many years. Mr. Traxel a retired custodian and bus driver for the Adirondack Elementary School, West Leyden, passed away on January 18, 2015. Margaret was a member of the Ava Hilltop United Methodist Church, where she also belonged to the Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, dancing, listening to Big Band era music, and raising many different kinds of flowers. Mrs. Traxel is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Gary, Lynn (Sheila), all of Ava, and Bruce (Gayle), Prospect. One daughter and son-in-law: Donna (David) Byrne, Town of Lee; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Besides her husband Gordon, Margaret was predeceased by her brother Carl H. Kappler, Jr. A special thank you goes to the staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, for the excellent care given to Margaret, and also to the Boonville Ambulance personnel. In keeping with her wishes, funeral services will be held privately at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, there will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Ava Cemetery.
