Lee Center- Madeline H. Schoff, 93, of Northwood Circle, widow of Herman A. and a former longtime resident of Fish Creek Road, West Leyden, passed away, while under the care of her loving family, on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Betsy Ross Rehabilitation Facility, Rome, NY
Madeline was born on July 10, 1930, to Kenneth and Lillian Mowers Denslow, at the Denslow homestead farm, on the East Road, Town of Leyden. She grew up on the East Road and attended a rural school, later completing her education at Port Leyden Central School, graduating with the Class of 1949.
On June 17, 1950, Madeline was united in marriage with Herman A. Schoff, at St. Mary’s Catholic church, West Leyden. Afterwards the couple settled on the Schoff family dairy farm, on Fish Creek Road, near West Leyden. In 1953, they purchased the farm from Herman’s parents and together the couple operated the dairy farm, until Mr. Schoff passed away on February 17, 1981. Later Madeline attended Spring Road BOCES Center, Verona, studying home health care. For many years she was employed in home health care, in the Rome area.
In 2014, Madeline moved to Lee Center, making her home with her son, Daniel. In 2022, she moved in with her daughter, Deborah and son in law, Richard Wagner, also in Lee Center.
Madeline was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church, West Leyden and the church Altar & Rosary Society, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Boonville, Young at Heart Senior Citizens, Boonville, the Thursday Senior Bowling League, at the Boonville Bowling Alley, The Polish Home of Rome and the Red Hat Society.
Her greatest joy in life was her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She greatly loved her family and caring for them.
Madeline is survived by her children: Audrey (Dale) Ringrose, Rochester, Michael (Dorothy) Schoff, West Leyden, Edwin (Patricia) Schoff, Rome, Deborah (Richard) Wagner, Lee Center, and Mark (Dawn) Schoff, Ava. She was predeceased by a son, Daniel Schoff, in 2018. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Blanche Pfendler and Elaine (Frederick) Kline, Boonville; two brothers, G. Edwin Denslow, Pittsburgh, PA, and Roderick (Linda) Denslow, Leesburg, FL and two sisters in law; Marvel and Mary Denslow, both of Boonville. She was pre-deceased by four brothers; Richard, Donald (“Pete”), Douglas and Bruce Denslow.
Madeline’s family extends a heartfelt note of thanks to the staff at Betsy Ross Nursing Home for the excellent care, kindness and compassion extended to her and her family, during her final days and also to Horst and Mary Schubert for being such kind and caring neighbors for Madeline.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, West Leyden, where Rev. Daniel Chapin, pastor will officiate. Interment will be later this spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Prussian Settlement. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Delta Fire Department P.O. Box 596, Rome, NY 13440. Her funeral arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
