Boonville - Mabel (Schleicher) Young, 77, a resident of Post Street and the wife of Donald, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center in New Hartford after a long illness. Mabel was born in Cold Brook on March 15, 1931, a daughter of Leon and Mildred Weaver Schleicher. She grew up in the Cold Brook area then moved with her family to Vernon Center and later to Boonville, where her family settled on a farm on the upper West Leyden Road. She completed her education at Boonville Central School. For several years Mabel was employed as a clerk at Jack's Clothing and Footwear Store in Boonville. She was also employed as a housekeeper at several Boonville residences. On May 1, 1948, Mabel was united in marriage with Donald F. Young in Boonville. The couple later moved to Post Street, where they have since resided. Their marriage was a blessed and happy union lasting 60 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boonville and the Boonville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Young greatly enjoyed crocheting and making blankets for her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; at the present time she was making a blanket for her great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, Mabel is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Frank Young, and Kim and Linda Young, all of Boonville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and David Webster, Constableville, Jill Young, Boonville, and Trudy and Melvin Drake, Lee Center; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Helen Abel, Beverly and George Wheelock, and Shirley and Stewart Dunn; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gordon and Joyce Schleicher, Boonville, Bernie Yelton, Collinsville, his friend, Peggy Krug, and Verle and Wynola Yelton, Talcottville. She was predeceased by a son, Donald, Jr., in 1977, and a brother, Paul Yelton, in October 2006. Her family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Sandy and Chuck Matthews for their kind and compassionate care shown to Mabel during her illness. Her funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, followed by interment in Boonville Cemetery.
