Inlet-Mabel L. McGuirk, 83, of Inlet, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, following a short illness. Born on May 20, 1924, she was the daughter of Eugene and Mary Potthoff. At the age of 17, Mabel became a bookkeeper for the home office of Woolworth's in New York City, and continued her employment for them until her retirement in the mid 1980's. She married John McGuirk on November 27, 1949, and though they lived and worked in the New York City area, their hearts were in their Inlet home where they moved permanently in 1989. John predeceased Mabel in 1993. Mabel was also predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Reitz, Theresa Kemph and by a brother, Eugene Potthoff. She is survived by John's sisters; Margaret Thibado, of Inlet, and Dorothy Flay of Wall, NJ along with several nieces and nephews. Mabel made friends wherever she went and will be missed by all of them. A memorial service will be held in May, at a time to be announced. It was Mabel's wish the donations be sent to HASCA, P.O. Box 25, Old Forge, NY 13420. Due to their excellent care and attention, she was able to stay in her home longer than anyone thought possible. Arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
