Turin- Mabel M. Hathaway, 94, a long time resident of West Main St., widow of Ivie E. passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville. Mabel was born in the Town of Leyden, on November 14, 1922, a daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Wittwer Houck. She was raised in the Town of Leyden, where she attended rural schools. For a time she was employed at the Cozy Restaurant, Boonville, before many years of employment as an operator at General Telephone Co., Boonville. On November 10, 1955, Mabel was united in marriage with Ivie E. Hathaway in Lewiston, NY. After their marriage the couple lived in Constableville, before moving to Turin in 1965. Mr. Hathaway, a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, and retired mechanic and bus driver for South Lewis School System died on December 9, 2002. Mrs. Hathaway was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mohawk Hill. She is survived by her daughter Tammy(James)Vermilling, Charleston, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Charleston, SC, Michael, Scott and Brandon, all of Walden, NY, Courtney Vermilling, Charleston, SC, Justin, Hanahan, SC, Rebecca, Appleton, WI and James III, US Army, Ft. Bliss, TX, fourteen great grandchildren; three cousins, Al Krumenaker, New Hampshire, Shirley Augustine, Rome and Jeanne Gymburch, Utica; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Kilgallen, Albany and a very special friend Mary Martin, Port Leyden. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Marie Hathaway, on April 12, 1961, a grandson Shawn Patrick Vermilling in 1988 a granddaughter, Harmony Ann in 1992, a sister in law, Emma N. Hathaway, in 1994, and a niece, Laurie Wilson in 2016. Mabel's family would like to recognize the staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, for their exceptional and capable care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday, December 12, at 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Denise Bowen, from Boonville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment in the spring will be in Boonville Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Resident Activities Fund, 232 Academy St. Boonville, NY 13309.
