Lyons Falls - Mabel Grace (Compo) Brinkerhoff, 78, of High Falls Apartments, Cherry Street in Lyons Falls, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. A native of Boonville, she was born on September 1, 1930 to David H. and Delia Smith Compo. She grew up in the Boonville area, where she attended high school. On December 17, 1949, Mabel was united in marriage with Lawrence L. Brinkerhoff at the Congregational Church of Port Leyden. The couple lived in Utica, Buffalo, and Port Leyden before moving to Orlando, FL in 1970. The couple operated a coin laundry machine business while in Orlando. In 1984 they returned to Port Leyden and made their home on North Pearl Street. Mabel was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Orlando. She enjoyed crafts, baking and candy-making. She especially liked making and decorating teddy bears which she then sent to people who were ill. She deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and found great joy in spending time with them. In addition to her husband, Mabel is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Lynn and Diane Brinkerhoff of Port Leyden, Joseph and Alison Brinkerhoff of Constableville, Samuel and Melinda Brinkerhoff of Henderson, NV, and Lawrence Lynn Brinkerhoff, Jr., of Buck Lake, NY; four daughters and son-in-law, Sarah and Mark Pavlica of Quantico, MD, Marion Free of Winter Garden, FL, Peggy Ann Moran of West Leyden, and Ruthann Rose of New Smyrna Beach, FL; thirty grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Marie Mooney of Lowville. She was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and David Henry Compo. Her funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Lyons Falls Bible Fellowship Church, Route 12, Lyons Falls, where Pastor Robert Stoudt will officiate. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Visitation hours are Saturday from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mohawk Valley Chapter, 4947 Commercial Drive, Yorkville, NY 13495. Her funeral arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
