Port Leyden- Lowell F. Dexter, 75, of West Main St., husband of the late Elaine, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville. Lowell was born in Lowville, on November 14, 1944, a son of Floyd and Louise Dugas Dexter. He was a lifelong resident of Port Leyden, where he graduated from high school. For several years, he was employed as a sawyer at Ethan Allen Furniture Co. Boonville. On October 29, 1966, Lowell was united in marriage with Elaine Carpenter, at Mt. Carmel Church, Utica. In 1967, the couple settled at their residence on West Main St. Port Leyden. Elaine, who was a seamstress for many years at Lally Manufacturing Co. Port Leyden, passed away on September 26, 2013. Mr. Dexter was of the Catholic faith; in years past he had attended St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. Lowell greatly enjoyed baseball and for a time he coached the Port Leyden Babe Ruth Baseball Team. He also possessed a keen interest in fishing, playing horse shoes, watching NY Yankee Baseball, NY Giants Football and NASCAR. In addition to his son, Darren, Lowell is survived by a sister, Cherie M. Mashaw, Boonville and a longtime friend, Bob Millick. He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence, on January 3, 2009. His Funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours are Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the funeral at the funeral home, where masks and social distancing is required according to current mandates.
