Port Leyden - Louis H. Snyder, 82, a long time resident of Mechanic Street, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after a brief illness. He was born in Watson on January 13, 1926, to Harry and Florence Waldron Snyder. He attended school in Greig, and then served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge, Mr. Snyder was employed as a machine operator at Boonville Division of Ethan Allen Furniture Co., and later as a guard at Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Co. He was united in marriage with Shirley DeVoe, who died on April 26, 1981. Louis was an avid fisherman and hunter. In later years he greatly enjoyed riding his scooter and visiting his many friends in Port Leyden. He was noted for his bountiful vegetable gardens, and he greatly enjoyed sharing his harvest with his friends. He was predeceased by two sons, Louie D. and Barry Snyder, and by two brothers, Donald and Eugene Snyder. He is survived by one sister, Betty Bush, Greig; two sisters-in-law, Janet Snyder, Ilion, and Lulabell DeLarm, Sylvan Beach; several nieces and nephews; and friends David and Lois Compo, Barry and Julie Fairbanks, Butch and Rita Loomis, all of Port Leyden, and Connie and Peter Lee and William and Darlene Wheeler, all of Boonville. In keeping with his wishes there will be no funeral services or visitation hours. Interment will be in Port Leyden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Port Leyden Fire Co. Ambulance Fund. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
