BARNEVELD - Loretta Jean LaFave peacefully passed into the waiting arms of God Tuesday night, April 3rd, 2018. Loretta was born in Utica, New York on June 6th, 1934 to Antoinette and Anthony Vashio. Loretta was the youngest of four children. Siblings preceding Loretta were Carmen, James and Angela (Grasso), all of Utica, New York. On May 1st, 1954, Loretta was joined in marriage with Kermit LaFave of Utica, New York at St. Anthonys Roman Catholic Church in Utica. Following their union, the couple lived in Utica before moving to Barneveld in 1964 where they raised three children, Karen (Loucks) of Rome, New York, Paul of Amherst, New York and Andre of Remsen, New York. Loretta and Kermit were members of St. Leo and St. Ann Catholic parish of Holland Patent. The couple weaved a part of the local fabric for 61 years at the Barneveld homestead, until the passing of Kermit on July 8th, 2015. Professionally, Loretta was involved in Retail Management at several leading local stores and as a director with Oneida County Community Action agency in Rome, New York. Besides her professional career, Loretta was involved with many charity and community outreach activities, which impacted the lives of hundreds. As the treasured family matriarch, Loretta is survived in addition to her children, by two daughters-in-law, Paul (Teresa) LaFave, East Amherst, NY, and Andre (Kathryn) LaFave, Remsen, NY, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Lorettas legacy remains in the peoples the lives she touched - her generosity and giving spirit benefited everyone she passed. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:00am at St Leo and St. Ann Church, Holland Parent, NY, with entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours are Sunday, April 8, 2018, 1:00pm - 4:00pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect and Barneveld Fire Departments.
