Boonville- Lovilla Ann “Lolly” Kotary, 85, of Aubrey Ave., wife of Patrick F., passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, December 24, 2023, while surrounded by the loving care of her husband and family.
Affectionately known as “Lolly,” she was born in Boonville, on July 27, 1938, a daughter of Edward and Catherine Vicks Scheve. She grew up in Boonville, first attending Boonville Central School, before moving to Floyd, and attending Holland Patent Central High School, during ninth and tenth grades. She completed her education graduating from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1957. During her later high school years, Lolly was employed at Holcomb’s Bakery and Coffee Shop in Boonville.
On August 3, 1957, Lolly was united in marriage with the love of her life, Patrick F. Kotary, at St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. Later the couple settled on Aubrey Ave., where they since lived. In later years the couple greatly enjoyed wintering at their home in Rotonda West, Florida.
After her marriage, Lolly greatly embraced her role of wife, homemaker and provider for her family. She was a talented cook and homemaker, who was always cheerful and enjoyed canning vegetables, fruits and making pickles. In addition to her cooking abilities, Lolly was also a very talented and accomplished seamstress who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. For a number of years, Lolly taught others her tole painting, sewing and quilting skills. She will be fondly remembered for knitting elaborate blankets for each of her children and grandchildren. When Lolly was not busy in her cooking or sewing endeavors, for a number of years she operated The Plaster Shack, a plaster and ceramic shop in Boonville, where she created ceramic and plaster artwork. She complimented her ceramic business using her extensive creative painting skills and interests.
Lolly served as President of the Dodge Pratt & Northam Art and Community Center of Boonville, where she also taught classes in creating various arts and crafts. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville, a member of Boonville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Boonville American Legion Post 406 Auxiliary, Harland J Hennessey VFW Post 5538 Auxiliary, Rotonda West Woman’s Club, Gasparilla Park Ladies Club and also held the office of Boonville Tax Collector from 1977-79.
Most of all, Lolly dearly loved her husband, Pat and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her extended family. She is survived by her husband Patrick of 66½ years, a daughter, Kim Howard, Boonville; son and daughter in law, Ronald (Chris) Kotary, Constableville; daughter and son in law, Leigh Kotary and Ray Hannaman, Fort Plain, NY, and a son, Patrick Kotary, Jr., and Shannon Secor. A daughter, Lara Lynne Kotary passed away on July 20, 1991. Lolly is also survived by ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, David A. Scheve, Boonville, NY and her sister-in-law, Ginger Scheve, Port Leyden. Also surviving is Larry Austin, who was like a son to Lolly and Pat. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard Scheve, Edward Scheve and by a sister, Joan Pelton.
Her Funeral will begin on Friday, December 29, 2023, with a prayer service at 9:15 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church, Charles St. Boonville, with Rev. Matthew Rawson, pastor, as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Prussian Settlement in West Leyden, NY. Calling hours are Thursday 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
