Lillian L. Samson

Port Leyden - Lillian L. Samson, 89, of James Street, passed away at her residence after a short illness on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, while surrounded by the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice. Lillian was born in Kenmore, Wyoming, on February 17, 1919, to John and Stephanie Kociolek Kazek. She moved to Mohawk Hillas an infant, where she grew up and attended the Mohawk Hill Rural School. On May 2, 1936, Lillian was united in marriage with Raymond J. Samson in West Leyden. After their marriage the couple settled on the Samson homestead farm on Mohawk Hill which they operated until 1971, when they moved to Port Leyden. In addition to the farm operation, Mrs. Samson was employed as a nurses aid, first at Sunset Nursing & Maternity Hospital, Constableville, and then for twenty years in the maternity department of Rome and Murphy Memorial Hospital. Mr. Samson died on January 24, 1973. Mrs. Samson was of the Catholic faith, and had attended St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. She greatly enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Thomas Capron, Port Leyden; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gerald and Corinne Samson, Orlando, FL and Samuel Samson, Port Leyden. She was predeceased by a son, James, in December, 2008. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Constance Gatz, Rome, and Sally and Robert Croniser, Boonville; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Samson, Lake Wales, FL. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Dean Samson and Thomas Matthew Capron, who died as infants; a sister, Kazmer Nasuta; and a brother, Mathew Kazek. She is also survived by three sisters- in-law, Jane Kazek, Boonville, and Ruth Goodhines and Marie Kupiec, both of New Hartford; and numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis Co. Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 266, Lowville, New York 13367, or the Port Leyden Fire Department. Her funeral arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
