Point Rock- Lewis R. Dean, 78, of Point Rock Road, passed away after a short illness, on Saturday, June 5, 2016, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. He was born on May 15, 1938, on the Dean Homestead farm, in the Town of Boonville, a son of Lewis G. and Josephine Zuzga Dean. Lewis grew up in Boonville, where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1956. Thereafter he served in the U.S. Army Reserves, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Private. After his service to his country, Mr. Dean operated the Dean family farm, on the Webster Hill Road, town of Ava. After selling the farm, he was employed as a Correctional Officer at Oneida County Jail. Later he took the NY State Correctional Officer Exam; thereafter he was employed for several years as a state prison Correctional Office, retiring from Mid-State Correctional Facility, Marcy. Lewis was an avid hunter and fisherman; he greatly enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his nephew, John (Diane) Lieber. He is survived by two daughters, Ms. Lori A. Allbright, Taberg and Cindy (Thomas) Retcho, New Windsor, NY. He was predeceased by a son, Brian L. Dean, on January 26, 1993, and by a daughter, Shari Molinari, on March 29, 2010 and by his sister, MaryLou Samarco, in April, 1987. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; April Strausser, Steven Allbright, Daniel Allbright, Nicole Yaciw, Jeffery Molinari, Amy Dean, and Gabriel and Brandon Retcho, many great grandchildren; one sister, Dolores Lieber, Oriskany, and nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mr. Dean's wishes there will be no services or calling hours. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
