Lester H. Ossont

Lester H. Ossont, 80, of Lyonsdale Road, husband of Betty, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at his residence, while under the loving care of his family and Lewis Co. Hospice. He was born in Auburn, on January 31, 1927, a son of Russell and Alice Shepard Ossont. Mr. Ossont grew up in the Greig area, where he attended rural schools. In November, 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country in the Pacific Theater of WWII. Amongst many navy vessels that he served on was the USS Sampson NY. Mr. Ossont was honorably discharged on July 14, 1946. On October 6, 1946, Lester was united in marriage with Betty Mackey, a union that endured for sixty years. In 1946, he began his long career of employment at the Gould Paper Co. of Lyons Falls, retiring in 1986, due to ill health as Paper Mill Superintendent at Georgia Pacific Paper Co. of Lyons Falls. Mr. Ossont was a life member of Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. of Boonville. He greatly enjoyed gardening where he raised vegetables, hunting and fishing, playing golf, and his Mustang Convertible Car. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by three sons: Lester J. Ossont, and companion, Patricia Price, Bruce W. Ossont and wife, Elizabeth, Andrew R. Ossont, and one daughter; Deborah A. Ossont, all of Lyons Falls. He was predeceased by a son, Leslie R. Ossont on May 10, 1947, and by a daughter Bethany M. Ossont, on December 18, 1969. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, one brother, James Ossont, Constableville, and two sisters; Marilyn Denny, and Susan Browne, both of Scotsdale, AZ. His Funeral Service will be Saturday at 11 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Naomi Kelly, pastor of Forest Presbyterian Church of Lyons Falls will officiate. Interment with military honors from Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., Charles J. Love Post American Legion, and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours are Friday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
