Town of Steuben- Leslie H. Zanker, 60, of Roberts Road, husband of Marjorie, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Rome Memorial Hospital. Leslie was born in Gouverneur, on October 3, 1953, a son of Clark Milton and Venetia Ruth Woodward Zanker. He grew up in Fowler, and graduated from Gouverneur High School with the Class of 1970. Thereafter he attended Canton ATC, before entering the US Air Force, in 1972. Mr. Zanker served his country stateside during the Viet Nam War and was Crew Chief on the B-1B Stealth Bomber at Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, TX. TSGT Zanker retired with an honorable discharge in 1992. In 1994, he began his employment in the Staple Stock Receiving Department of Walmart Distribution Center, Marcy, a position that he held at the present time. On July 31, 1976, Leslie was united in marriage with Marjorie Peck in Rome. Leslie enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all he cherished his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, daughter, Michele and her husband Dave Kaun, Westernville; three sons, Leslie Zanker, Jr, and his wife, Kelly, Westernville, Randy Zanker and his wife April, (Germany US Army) and Daniel Zanker, Rome; six grandchildren, Ashton Pitcher, Cameron Zanker, Alexander Kaun, Timothy Kaun, Leah Zanker and Gavin Zanker, at the present time Leslie was joyfully anticipating the birth of his seventh grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Clark and Jane Zanker, Heuvelton, Francis and Debbie Zanker, Ava; one sister, Kathy and Pablo Hernandez, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Franklin, in 2010, and by a sister, Bernice Walrath, in 1995, and by his father, Clark, on July 10, 1960, and his mother, Venetia, on December 11, 1975. His Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 8 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a spring interment in Boonville Cemetery.
