Leona B. Owens

Utica- Leona B. Owens, 87, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018. She was born in Rome, on September 13, 1930, a daughter of Victor and Viola Kessler Gleasman and grew up on the Ava Point Rock Road, receiving her education at West Leyden Central School, graduating with the Class of 1948. For many years, Leona was employed as a bus driver, first for Cletus Paine Bus Service of Lee Center and later for over 20 years at VIP Transportation of Rome, retiring in 2000. In 1950, Leona was married to Harold Owens. Her father, Victor, taught Leona the art of hanging wall paper; for many years she enjoyed wall papering. She also enjoyed scrap booking and gardening. Later in life, Leona had resided with her daughter, Cindy Cadrette of Utica. Leona is survived by two daughters, Cindy Cadrette and her significant other, Frank LaColla, Utica, Linda Brady and husband, John, Clinton; four grandchildren, Donald Baxter and his wife, Lacy, Shane Cadrette, Cody Cadrette and Matthew Brady; great grandchildren, Owen Baxter and Kiara Cadrette. There will be no visitation hours or services. Memorial contributions may be made to Central New York Alzheimer Disease Association 441 West Kirkpatrick St. Syracuse, NY 13204, or to an area animal shelter of your choice. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
