Boonville- Leon Ivan Bowen, Jr. 80, of Stuckie Road, husband of Wanda, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, after a brief illness. Leon was born in Rome, on April 26, 1933, a son of Leon Ivan and Cecilia Elwood Bowen, Sr. He completed his education at Rome Free Academy, later earning his GED, while serving his country from 1956-1958; after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he served in the Army Reserves for six years. For 19 years he was employed as a machinist at Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome; later he was employed for Domar Co. of Rome, in construction of protective municipal sand domes. His last employment was at Cleo Hughes Horse Farm near Boonville. On December 24, 1963, Leon was united in marriage with Wanda Prosser at the Lee Center Methodist Church. There after the couple lived in Point Rock for several years before moving to their present home in 1984. Mr. Bowen was of the Methodist Faith and he enjoyed spending time with this family, hunting, fishing, doing mechanical work on his car and watching NASCAR Races. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Melissa Turner and Pete Hutchins, John Bowen and Ginger Egelston, all of Boonville, Rose Kingsley, Rome and Holly Wright, and husband, Robert, Staley, NC, 12 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. His Funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Robert Dean, of the Boonville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment with Military Rites from Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Mohawk Hill. Calling hours are Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
