Forestport- Leo R. Charron, 93, husband of the late Lenora, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born on June 5, 1922, at Attleboro, Massachusetts, a son of Victor and Alice Besette Charron. He received his education at Finberg School, graduating from Attleboro, High School. On January 17, 1941, Mr. Charron enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country for the duration of WWII, until his honorable discharge, on January 14, 1947, with the rank of Chief Aviation Torpedo man's Mate. While in the Navy, he served with the original crew of the USS Enterprise, also serving on the H.M.S. Victorious, USS Prairee, USS Altamaha and the Casu Two. After serving his country, Mr. Charron relocated to New York City, where he lived for several years, before moving to Utica, in 1958, where was employed for many years as a machinist at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. In 1960, he moved to Forestport, where he constructed his present home. On August 24, 1951, Leo was married to Lenora L. Renner, in Bangor, ME. She died on May 1, 1987. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Forestport. Leo was very talented and skilled at wood working and furniture building. He especially enjoyed constructing tables and grandfather clocks. Mr. Charron is survived by one brother and sister in law, Andrew and Clara Charron, and one sister, Claire Des Vergnes, all of Attleboro, MA. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Charron, and by brothers, Marcel, Henry, Morris, Lucien and Aime-Guy. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at St. Patrick's Church, Forestport, where Rev. Thomas Ward, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Forestport, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will confer Military Rites. There are no calling hours.
