Lawrence L. Brinkerhoff

Lyons Falls - Lawrence L. Brinkerhoff, 86, formerly of High Falls Apartments on Cherry Street, and more recently a resident of Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Faxton-St. Lukeï¿(TM)s Healthcare, New Hartford after a long illness. Lawrence was born in Mount Clemens, MI, on February 2, 1924, a son of Louis and Marion (Rocker) Brinkerhoff. His family moved to the Port Leyden area where he completed his education. While later living in Buffalo, he and his brother, Travison, were self-employed painters hired by Texaco Inc. in the construction of their many large gas and automobile service stations. Lawrence was later employed as a machinist in the Utica area. Mr. Brinkerhoff joined the Army Air Corps in 1943, serving in the European Theater of WWII. He participated in several battles, including the invasion of Normandy, prior to his honorable discharge in October 1945. On December 17, 1949, Lawrence was united in marriage with Mable Grace Compo at the Congregational Church, Port Leyden. For many years after that Mr. Brinkerhoff was employed as superintendent of the painting division of Law Bros. Construction Co. of Lyons Falls. In 1970 they moved to Orlando, FL where they managed a coin-operated laundromat business. The couple returned to Port Leyden in 1964, making their home on Pearl Street. Lawrence is survived by his children, Lynn and Diane Brinkerhoff of Port Leyden, Sarah and Mark Pavlica of Quantico, MD, Marion Free of Wintergarden, FL, Peggy Ann Moran of West Leyden, Joseph and Alison Brinkerhoff of Constableville, Ruthann Rose of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Samuel and Melinda Brinkerhoff of Henderson, NV, and Lawrence Lynn Brinkerhoff, Jr. of Orlando, FL; thirty grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Donna Vae Brinkerhoff. His funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Abundant Life Fellowship Church, State Route 12, Boonville, where Pastor Dan Tabolt will officiate. Interment with military honors from Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will follow in Boonville Cemetery. Visitation hours are Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, and on Wednesday 10-11 a.m. at the Abundant Life Church.
