Lawrence H. 'Larry' Kirk

Constableville- Lawrence H. Kirk, Jr. 60, of West St., affectionately known as Larry, husband of Charleen, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after a brief illness. He was born in Rome, on November 7, 1953, a son of Lawrence H. and Mildred A. Pierre Kirk, Sr. Larry grew up in Boonville, where he attended Adirondack High School, before serving his country in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War, stationed in San Diego CA, New London, CT, Newark, NJ, and aboard a submarine patrolling international waters, before receiving his Honorable Discharge. Following his Navy service, Mr. Kirk returned to school and earned his GED, before enrolling in Riverside School of Aeronautics, Marcy, where he earned his mechanics license in aircraft air frames and power plants, and an Associate's Degree in Aeronautics. On June 29, 1974, Larry was united in marriage with Charleen A. Croneiser at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. This was a blessed union that endured for nearly 40 years. After their marriage the couple lived in Boonville and later in Connecticut, Florida and North Carolina, where Mr. Kirk was employed as a surveyor for NOAA in the construction of steel towers that measured water and land movement. Mr. Kirk had a long and brilliant career in the aviation industry. He was first employed as an aircraft mechanic for Empire Air Lines of Rome, where he became a supervisor of aircraft maintenance at Empire and later at Piedmont Airlines, of Rome. After Piedmont was purchased by U.S. Airways, he was employed as a sheet metal aircraft mechanic in Rome, before relocating to Charlotte, NC, where he was employed as air craft inspector for US Air and later in a management position for business development with US Air. In 1999 he moved to Boonville and was employed at Global Aviation as a director of aircraft maintenance at Griffiss Air Base, Rome. In 2000 he and his family moved to their present home in Constableville; in 2003 he was employed in Miami FLA, as lead inspector for Commodore Aviation Co. in their company's relocation to Griffiss Air Base, Rome, where the company became known as Empire Aero Center, a major maintenance center, where Mr. Kirk was employed as an Aircraft Inspector. At the present time he was employed as an aircraft inspector at Premier Aviation at Griffiss Air Base, Rome. He was of the Catholic Faith. Larry found great pleasure in spending time with his wife and family and with his canine companion Zeb. He enjoyed wood working and was an ardent Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. In addition to his wife, Charleen, Larry is survived by his mother, Mildred, Constableville, one daughter and son in law, Lisa and Chris Carver, Mooresville, NC; three sons, Ryan L. Kirk, Constableville, Matthew J. Kirk and his fiance, Niki Foley, Savannah, GA, and Aaron D. Kirk and companion Stephanie Mooney, Lyons Falls; three grandchildren, Logan Carver, Hallie Carver and Madelynn Kirk. He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence H. Kirk, Sr. in 2002, and by a half sister, Karen T. Clark, in 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Lawrence Marullo, on Saturday, at 9:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, Constableville, with interment to follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville. Calling hours are Friday, 5-8 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Constableville Fire Company.
