Laura E. Lockwood Stone, 79, of Lovers Lane, wife of Clinton C. Stone, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the Heritage Health Care Center, Utica, after a brief battle with cancer. Laura was born April 25, 1927 in Richfield Springs, a daughter of Lynn B. and Pearl Lott Conover. She grew up in Richmondville, graduating from Richmondville Central School with the Class of 1944, and attended Hartwick College, Oneonta. On October 20, 1946 she was united in marriage with Robert E. Lockwood in Richmondville, where the couple made their home. In 1963 the family moved to West Oneonta and Mrs. Lockwood was employed at Hartwick College, working her way from secretary to Director of the Computer Center. In 1975 she left Hartwick College to take time to enjoy her grandchildren. After the death of Mr. Lockwood on April 1, 1985, she began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Laurens, Maryland and Schenevus as a Postal Clerk, retiring in 1999. On August 4, 1990 she was united in marriage with Clinton C. Stone in Maryland, NY. The couple moved to their present home on Lovers Lane in 1999 and Laura was employed at Great American, Boonville, as a Computer Clerk. She was of the Lutheran faith and for nine years was the organist at the Richmondville Lutheran Church. She was also very active in the Cub and Boy Scouts programs and the Luther League in Richmondville, and was a member of the Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., Boonville. In addition to her husband Mrs. Stone is survived by one daughter: Bonnie and husband Greg DeSalvatore of Amsterdam; three sons: Harry and wife Anita Lockwood of Newfield, Lynn and wife Judy Lockwood of Boonville, and Richard and wife Sue Lockwood of Port Leyden; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister: Florence Nader of Oneonta; one brother: Clarence "Jack" Conover of Cobleskill; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Lynn Conover, Jr., and by a sister, Marion Turner. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Stone will be at 11:00 am Friday at the Boonville United Methodist Church, Main Street, with Rev. William A. Mudge, Pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Arrangements are in the care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
