Laura B. Cavanaugh

December 2, 1933 — March 7, 2017

Constableville- Laura B. (Senesen) Cavanaugh, 83, a longtime resident of Highmarket Road, widow of William J., passed away at her residence on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, while surrounded by the loving care of her family and hospice. Laura was born in Montague, on December 2, 1933, a daughter of Mitchel Michael and Anna Gozalkowski Senesen. When Laura was age 7, her father died and she moved with her family to Rome, where she grew up and graduated from Rome Free Academy with the Class of 1952. While living in Rome, Laura was employed on the Muckland Farms in South Rome and at a newspaper. On September 26, 1953, Laura was united in marriage with William J. Cavanaugh, at St. Mary's Church, Constableville. After their marriage the couple established the Cavanaugh Dairy Farm, on Highmarket Road, near Constableville, which Bill and Laura operated for many years. Their marriage was a blessed and happy union which endured for over 40 years, until Mr. Cavanaugh passed away on March 24, 1994. Laura was a very kind person who deeply loved her husband, Bill and her family. She was at her happiest while enjoying her talents at cooking, baking and then having their many friends and family members for dinner. Bill and Laura enjoyed a long tradition of always welcoming others into their home. Mrs. Cavanaugh was a member of St. Mary's Church, Constableville, where she also served on the St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society. For many years she served as a homeroom mother at Constableville Elementary School. She greatly enjoyed cooking old time Polish meals, dancing and attending Polka dances, playing Pitch, snowmobiling, gardening and raising flowers. Laura had a special affection for all kinds of animals. In addition to sharing in the operation of their dairy farm, in 1975, Bill and Laura were founding members of St. Patrick's Church of Highmarket Restoration Society. For many years thereafter Laura served tirelessly in the restoration of St. Patrick's Church and at the St. Patrick's Church Social, held each year on the last Sunday of August. In 1993, Laura shared Bill's joy in accomplishing the restoration and installation of the original St. Patrick's Church bell; a large bell which was gifted to a Catholic Church in Malone, NY, in 1944, when St. Patrick's Church of Highmarket, was closed. On Christmas Day, 1993, Bill, Laura and their family experienced the joy of once again hearing the original St. Patrick's bell peal across the High Market area. Laura is survived by her children; Patricia Sullivan, Julie (Stanley) Hutchins, Constableville, Katrina (Michael) Sullivan, all of Constableville, Roxanne (Michael) Hulsizer, Highmarket, Michael W. (Diane) Cavanaugh, Highmarket, and John P. (Rebecca) Cavanaugh, Constableville; 18 grandchildren; Melissa, Chad, Robbie, Angie, Mikey, Amy, Chris, Kathleen, Kayla, J.P., Billy, Alicia, Shannon, Mark, Nate, John, Jenn and Matt; fourteen great grandchildren; Warren, Robert, Bristol, Carmen, Alyssa, Olivia, Daniel, Tyler, Collin, Raelynn, Abby, Arianna, Logan and John. At the present time Laura was joyfully anticipating the birth of four additional great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Chester, in 2001 and by a son in law, Robert Sullivan, in 2008.
