Forestport- Kolby Edgar Lyon, 30, of Bower Road, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023.


Kolby was born in New Hartford, on March 11, 1993, a son of William “Chip” and Sherry L. Bandych Lyon. He attended Forestport Elementary School, before graduating from Adirondack Central High School, Boonville, with the Class of 2011. While in school, Kolby played Pop Warner Football and later he excelled in playing on the Adirondack Wildcat Varsity Football team. Starting from Tee Ball, Kolby loved the sport of baseball and played Forestport Little League baseball, Adirondack Varsity Baseball and American Legion Baseball, before playing on area slow and fast pitch Softball teams.


Kolby possessed a natural born talent in cooking and kitchen skills, beginning his cooking career while in high school, at The Kayuta Drive Inn. For a time following high school, he was employed at 3B Timber Co., Boonville, prior to employment as a cook at The Buffalo Head Restaurant, Forestport, Rocky’s On The Lake and each summer at the Kayuta Drive Inn. At the present time Kolby was employed as a chef at The Junction, in Alder Creek.


He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Forestport and a member of Charles J. Love Post Sons of the American Legion, Boonville. He greatly enjoyed snowmobile racing at the Boonville Snow Festival Races and other local snowmobile events, as well as hunting, ice fishing and especially fishing on the Salmon River, in the Altmar and Pulaski areas.


In addition to his parents, Chip and Sherry, Forestport, Kolby is survived by a brother and sister in law, Dylan Thomas (Melissa) Lyon, Boonville; one daughter, Addison Babcock, Martinsburg, NY; maternal grandparents, Thomas F. and Sarah Bandych, Alder Creek; and his paternal grandmother, Dorrinne J. Lyon, Boonville. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Dewey E. Lyon. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends, including his two special fishing buddies, Robert “Bobbo” Kratzenburg and Brian “B-Train” Trainor.


Calling hours will be Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 3-6:30 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where a service will begin at 6:30 P.M. Following the services, all are invited to attend a further celebration of Kolby’s life at the Boonville Elks Lodge, Rt. 12, Boonville, beginning at 7:00 P.M., also Thursday. Interment will be in the spring in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Northern New York Community Foundation, in support of the Kenneth Lyon, Sr. Scholarship Fund, 131 Washington Street, Watertown, New York 13601.
