Kenneth Robert Cyr

Kenneth Robert Cyr "The Apple Man", 78, of Park Ave., passed away peacefully with his beloved family by his side on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at St. Lukeï¿(TM)s Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. Ken was born in Boonville, on July 11, 1928, a son of Emil and Genevieve Loveland Cyr. He grew up in Boonville, where he attended Boonville Central High School, and then he relocated to Paso Robles, California. During the Korean Conflict he returned to Boonville, to enter the U.S. Army with his buddies from this area. Ken served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Okinawa, from January, 1951, thru December, 1952, at which time he was honorably discharged, entering the U.S. Army Reserves. Ken was united in marriage on June 6, 1954, to the former Helen Jane Holmes, in the Boonville United Methodist Church. For many years Mr. Cyr was employed as the Produce Manager for Acme Market in Boonville, and then for P.& C. Food Market of Lowville, retiring in the fall of 1990. Ken and his wife, Helen had an apple business in Boonville for the past forty years. This was an endeavor that they greatly loved. He especially loved the season of autumn, when he would see his treasured faithful customers, and friends. Apples were the second love of his life! Mr. Cyr was a Village of Boonville Trustee serving his village for a total of ten years. During his terms as Trustee, he served as commissioner of the police, street, and the parks departments. He was a member of the Boonville United Methodist Church, the Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., Post 5538, where he served as Post Commander from 1976-1978, post Quartermaster, and at the present time he was serving as a Post Trustee. He was also a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion # 406, of Boonville. In addition to his wife Helen Jane, of fifty three years, Ken is survived by his family of two daughters and sons in law, Deborah Majeed and Salam, Green Lane, Penn., Michele LaCross and Bruce, Georgia, Vt. They had one special granddaughter, Heidi Lynn Covey whom they raised from the age of ten. In addition they were greatly blessed by six other wonderful grandchildren; Ashley, Chelsea, Brianne, and Jacob LaCross, and Jawad and Bedhr Majeed. Ken greatly loved his family, and each and everyone had a special place in his heart. Also surviving are two sisters; Edna Mae Cyr, Boonville, Alice Barlow, and husband, John, Burlington, VT., a special brother in law, Alan Hunter, Baldwinsville, a niece, several nephews, and a special friend/son Robert Covey, who has shown Ken great acts of kindness through out the years. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Cyr, in 1970. His Funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. William A. Mudge, Pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment with Military Honors from Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., Charles J. Love Post American Legion, and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will follow in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
