Rome- Kenneth P. Long, 89, husband of the late Beatrice, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the Masonic Care Community, Utica. He was born in Utica, on April 28, 1926, a son of Kenneth B. and Rose M. Caliguire Long. Ken grew up in Utica, and graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School, with the Class of 1944. While in high school he enjoyed playing football. In 1944, Mr. Long entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving his country during WWII, until his honorable discharge in 1945. Thereafter he attended and graduated from Colgate University, where he earned a bachelor degree in physics. While at Colgate, he was a member of the wrestling team. At one time, he was employed at Mohawk Containers. Later, for many years Mr. Long was employed at Rome Air Development Center, retiring as chief of the procurement division of RADC. On August 18, 1975, he was married to Beatrice Karlen Davis, in Anchorage, Alaska. Mrs. Long died on July 29, 1997. He was predeceased by his step sons, William and Jeffery Davis. Mr. Long was of the Catholic faith. He greatly enjoyed reading, automobile race cars; he was a member of Sport Car Club of America. He was also a gun collector, active in target shooting, a licensed gunsmith and a member of the NRA. He is survived by three brothers, Robert, Stittville, Donald, Whitesboro and Richard, Ilion; one sister, Rosemary (Joseph) Latella, Utica, step daughters in law, including Donna Davis, Rome, seven step grandchildren, including Dawn Davis, North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Church, Rome, where Rev. Donald H. Karlen, a retired priest from Christ Our Hope Parish, Boonville, will officiate. A spring interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Rome P.O. Box 4572, Rome, NY 13442, or to Stevens Swan Humane Society 5664 Horatio St. Utica, NY 13502, or to a charity of your choice. Ken's arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
