Avon Park Florida, Formerly of Boonville- Kenneth P. affectionately known as "Kenny" Fitch, 57, husband of Frieda, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Constableville, on November 1, 1954, to the late Robert and Margaret Fitch. Kenneth graduated from Adirondack Central School with the Class of 1973, and also from Corning Community College. Later he was employed at Foodland Supermarket in Boonville, before choosing to serve his country in the US Navy for four years. Upon returning from his military service, Kenny was untied in marriage to Frieda Ernst, on August 5, 1978 at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. In 1979, Kenny began his career as fireman with the Fire Department at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. In 1985, he was promoted to Lieutenant and then to Assistant Chief of Operations holding that position until the base closed in 1997. After that he transferred to Avon Park Air Force Range as the Assistant Chief of Operations. He retired in 2009, after 35 years of Federal Service. Kenneth was a Past Commander of Charles J. Love Post DSC # 406 of the American Legion, a life member of Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW #5538, both of Boonville, and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #2494 of Highland County, Florida. In addition to his wife, Frieda, of Avon Park, he is survived by two daughters, Kerri Fitch, Avon Park, Fla, and Amanda Fitch Carter, and husband Walt, Zolfo Springs, FL; one precious granddaughter, Kaitlyn, two sisters, Mary Ann and Jay Bourgeois, Mechanicville, NY, Karen and Leonard Williams, Boonville; two sisters in law, Beth and Mark Denslow, Boonville, Laurie and Keith DeGraaf, Grove City PA, and several nieces and nephews. His Funeral will begin on Saturday, March 31, at 10:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc.143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will render Military Rites. Visitation hours are Friday, March 30, from 6-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
