Boonville- Kenneth G. Pond, Jr., 77, of Erwin St., a native and former resident of Watertown, husband of Norma, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013, at his residence, while under the loving care of his family and Hospice Care. Ken was born on April 27, 1935, of son of Kenneth G. and Vera Williams Pond, Sr. He grew up in Watertown, graduating from Watertown High School, with the Class of 1954. Mr. Pond served his country, first in the U.S. Navy Reserves From 1953, until his honorable discharge in 1956. In 1957, Mr. Pond enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, completing his basic training at Lack Land Air Force Base, in San Antonio, TX, then serving as a Radio Relay Equipment Repairman, receiving his honorable discharge in 1960, from Pope Air Force Base, in North Carolina. On August 6, 1958, Ken was married to Norma Pfister, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Watertown. In 1960, the couple moved to Boonville, settling on Erwin St. in 1965, where they have since lived. In 1960, Mr. Pond began his employment with General Telephone Electronics Co. in Boonville, retiring in 1995, from Contel Co. of Boonville, as a telephone switchman and splicer. He was also employed part time by Kenneth VanLuven of Boonville, in the operation of Williams Express Co. Ken was a past member and current Honorary Member of Boonville Fire Co. and for several years he as an active member of the Boonville Fire Co. Ambulance crew. He was also a life member and former trustee of Boonville Elks Lodge # 2158 and a member and past president of the Box Canyon Hunting Club of Boonville. He was a councilman on the Town of Boonville Board, as well as a member of the Town of Boonville Assessment Board of Review. He enjoyed 4 wheeling and snowmobiling. In addition to his wife, Norma, he is survived by his four children: Randy A. Boonville, Robert S. Dallas, TX, Craig R. Boonville, and Lisa (David) Penczek, Turin; eleven grandchildren, Stacie Penczek, Zachary Pond, Andrew Penczek, Nicholas Pond, Matthew Pond, Madison Pond, Evan Penczek, Connor Pond, Kristen Pond, Victoria Weber and Bralyn two great grandchildren, Rya and Kaylee Pond; and one sister, Susan Hinckley, Lorain, OH. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Hinckley and by a brother, Stephen. Members of the Boonville Elks Lodge # 2158 will conduct a service on Thursday at 7:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a memorial service to follow. Visitation hours are Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home; members of the Boonville Fire Company will meet in a group at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
