Port Leyden - Kenneth Edwin Van Aernam, 72, a former long-time resident of Canal Street and River Road, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville after a brief illness. Prior to his hospital stay, Mr. Van Aernam was a resident at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Boonville. A native of Boonville, he was born on October 25, 1936 to Aubrey and Ethel Fruin Van Aernam. He grew up in Boonville, where he attended school. On October 22, 1977, he was united in marriage to Carol McIntyre at the Boonville Presbyterian Church. For many years he was employed as a logger for Duane and Lewis Stanford of Lyons Falls. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Gene Stanford of Port Leyden; a granddaughter, Brittany; five sisters, Marie Straley of Syracuse, Eva of Black River, Eloise Davey and her husband, James, of Lowville, Juanita Alger and her husband, Charles, of TN, and Ramona Kirk of Boonville; three brothers and their wives, David and Marjorie of SC, Robert and Patricia of Carthage, and Harold and Susan of Philadelphia, NY. His funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Boonville United Methodist Church, where Reverend William A. Mudge, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Constableville. Calling hours are Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville. Donations in Kenneth's name may be made to the American Heart Association.
