Constableville- Kenneth A. Slawson, 73, of Kessler Road, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. Ken was born on September 24, 1941 in Westernville, a son of William and Maefred Beckwith Slawson. Following his education Ken began his working career in the logging business. On July 3, 1960, Ken was united in marriage with Barbara A. Loomis. Following their marriage the couple lived in Ava, before settling on the Kessler Road in 1983. Mrs. Slawson, a certified nurse's assistant, employed at Rome Parkway Nursing Home, and Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, passed away on July 27, 2014. For several years Kenny was self employed as a welder, traveling around the Lowville, Boonville, and Rome areas working on heavy equipment. For a time he was employed with CJ Logging Co., Boonville, where he worked as a mechanic on skidders and logging machinery. Ken also worked for the Still Family, at Ava Wood Products until retiring due to injuries sustained in a logging accident. Ken was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He also spent many hours tending his vegetable gardens. His greatest joy in life was time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ken is survived by his children; Kenneth (Rhonda) Slawson, Queensbury, Patti M. (Robert) Johnson, Hawkinsville, Randy Lee (Dawn) Slawson, Lowville, Lorri J. Slawson, Tappahannock, VA, Susan M. Slawson and companion, Dale Marolf, Constableville, and William F. Slawson, Lyons Falls, 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Besides his wife Barbara, he was predeceased by a daughter, Robin, in 1966, a son, Christopher, in 2001, a granddaughter, Amanda, in 1985, and by a grandson, Randy L. Slawson, Jr. in 2009, and by a half brother Ernie Vandewalker. Also surviving are his siblings: Frank (Pat) Slawson, Manassas, VA, Bill (Judy) Slawson, North Western, Kay (Joe) Domago, Salisbury, NC, Susan (Jim) Wood, Port Leyden, and Janice Slawson, Rome. A Memorial Service will be held on, Friday, November 7, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville. Interment will follow in Carmichael Hill Cemetery, Westernville. Calling hours will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Constableville Fire Department Ambulance Fund, Constableville, NY 13325.
