Turin - Katherine Marie Conway, 93, of East Road passed away on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Lewis County Extended Care Facility in Lowville after a short illness. She was born in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, on February 26, 1916 to Cecil and Mary (Kelly) Gillette. As a child she moved with her family to Constableville where she grew up on the West Road and attended Constableville High School. In 1936 she was married to Edward Conway at St. Joseph's Church in Boonville. Mr. Conway died on May 7, 1944. Marie was employed for fifteen years at the Greystone Manor Nursing Home in Martinsburg, then for five years at AMF of Lowville, and finally for eighteen years as a custodian and manager of the laundry department at South Lewis High School in Turin. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed cooking for her family. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who all affectionately called her "Grandma Marie". Mrs. Conway was a member of St. Mary's Church in Constableville. She is survived by two sons, John P. (Jack) and Eileen Conway of Turin, and their family: Randy and Susan Conway of Turin, Jacqueline Kenealy of Lowville, and Joanne and Dwayne Salmon of Turin; and Francis E. and Anne Conway of Manilus, and their daughters, Julia and Susan Conway, both of NYC; two daughters, Mary Mathis of Constableville and her family: Catherine and Scott Lee of New Bremen, Judy and Tom Rookey of Sacketts Harbor, and Joyce and Steve Feigeles of NJ; and Patricia and Robert Barnes and their family: Robert, Jr. of Camden, Steven and Deborah Barnes of MA, and William Barnes and Sally Gardner, both of Camden; twenty-two great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Lee of Turin and Eileen Zeman of OH; and a sister-in-law, Betty Gillette of Chittenango. She was predeceased by four brothers, Carl, Hugh, John, and Bill; a half-brother, Percy; and by one sister, Eleanor Bush. Her funeral will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street in Boonville, and at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Church in Constableville, where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Collinsville Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in Marie's memory to the Turin Fire Dept.
