Port Leyden- Karen J. (Millick) Gaylord, 75, formerly of West Main St., passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Lewis County Extended Care Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since 2020.
Karen was born in Constableville, on October 4, 1949, a daughter to Washington and Ruth Mathill Millick. She grew up on East Road, near Port Leyden and graduated from Port Leyden Central School, with the Class of 1967. While in high school, she also attended BOCES, where she majored in cosmetology.
She was first employed for many years at Lally Manufacturing Co., Port Leyden, as a sewing machine operator. Later she was employed as a secretary for Mosher’s Construction Co. Lyons Falls, before her last employment for several years at Climax Company, of Lowville, as hot stamp operator, in the production of Christmas boxes. She retired from Climax in 2013.
In August of 1967, Karen was married to Douglas Gaylord, at St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden. Afterwards the couple resided in Turin and they were divorced years later.
Karen’s Catholic faith was the center point of her life. She was a longtime active member of St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden.
In addition to her love for her canine and feline friends, Karen treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Kevin J. and his wife, Jill, Gaylord, Boonville; two daughters, Kelly and her husband, George Espinal, New Providence, NJ, Amy Stanford and her fiancé, Scott Prosser, Hinckley; grandchildren, Brandon Gaylord, Brett Gaylord and his wife, Makenzie, Andrew, Maximo and Emma Espinal, Olivia Stanford and Madelyn Prosser and one great grandchild, Brantley Gaylord; one brother, Washington Millick, Jr. Port Leyden and one sister, Andrea McCall and her husband, Theodore, McCall. She was predeceased by her parents, Washington and Ruth Millick.
Calling hours will be Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 11:30 – 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where a service will begin on Saturday at 2:00 P.M., also at the funeral home. A spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden, or to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, New York 13367.
