Constableville - June M. (Samson) Salmon, 82, affectionately known as "June Bug", passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Boonville after a long illness. A native of Fish Creek in the Town of Lewis, she was born on April 9, 1927, a daughter of Mathew J. and Mary (Cavanaugh) Samson. She grew up in the vicinity of Fish Creek, attending a rural school and graduating from West Leyden Central School with the Class of 1946. She was employed for ten years following graduation at Hotel Parquet in Constableville. Mrs. Salmon began her career of forty-five years as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Constableville Maternity & Nursing Hospital. Following several years at that facility, she transferred her employment to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Boonville, eventually retiring in 2004. On April 17, 1948, June was united in marriage with Karl M. Salmon at St. Mary's Church, Constableville. After their marriage the couple moved to Constableville, where they lived until 2009. Mr. Salmon, a retired carpenter and U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, died on April 23, 1998. June was a member of St. Mary's Church, Constableville, and the former St. Clare's Circle Daughters of Isabel of Boonville. She greatly enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, and was honored in 2000 when she received the Certified Nurse Assitant award of Oneida County and the CNA of N.Y.S. Exceptional Staff Award for outstanding contributions to the community. She was an avid NY Yankees baseball fan, and enjoyed trips to Yankee Stadium. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert R. and Candy Salmon of Chittenango; three daughters, Mrs. Karen McMahon and Jim Hunter of Stittville, Carol Ann Moore and her husband Daniel, and Rita E. Prescott, all of Schenectady; seven grandchildren, Heidi and Byron Abraham, Lisa and John Hanlon, Melissa and Matt Swan, Kelly and Lawrence Fisher, Rebecca and Kevin Dendy, Stanley Prescott, and Sarah Prescott; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Abigale, and Todd Mattison, and Benjamin and Anthony James; and a sister, Mary Lou Croniser of Boonville. Additional Survivors include June's "second" family, Tommy and Dawn DeLeon and children Candy and Jolenne. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert L. "Boots" Samson in 1984, Bernard J. Samson in 1991, and James A. Samson in 2001; a sister, Rita Flansburg in 2006; and two brothers-in-law, De Forest "Bud" Flansburg in 2007 and Francis Croniser in 2009. A prayer service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Constableville, with the Rev'd Lawrence Marullo as celebrant. Interment will be in the spring in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
