Joyce W. Schleicher

April 15, 1931 — August 24, 2021

Boonville - Joyce W. Schleicher, 90, widow of Gordon, and longtime resident of Woodgate Drive, passed away following a brief illness on August 24, 2021 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. Joyce was born on April 15, 1931 in Litchfield, NY a daughter of Francis and Edna VanNort Wheelock. She grew up in the Alder Creek and Boonville area, graduating from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1949. On October 8, 1949, Joyce was united in marriage with Gordon L. Schleicher in Boonville. Following their marriage, the couple moved to West St., before settling on Woodgate Drive, where she has since resided. For several winters the couple enjoyed wintering in Lake Wales, Florida. Mr. Schleicher, a WWII US Army Veteran and Barrett Paving retiree passed away on June 24, 2019. Joyce was employed as a bookkeeper for Mercer's Quickstop, and Gordy's Mobile Gas and Service Station both of Boonville, before her many years of employment as a short order cook at Boonville Bowl. She enjoyed bowling and golf and was a member of the Boonville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Joyce was also an active and longtime member of the Boonville United Methodist Church. She had a passion and love for children, and enjoyed babysitting for family and friends through the years. Joyce is survived by her two sons: Chip (Ina) Schleicher, Boonville, Garry Schleicher and fiance Melissa Raymond, Durhamville; two daughters: Pam (Larry) Pfendler, and Linda (Hal) Fox, all of Boonville; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Joyce was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of her 6th great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are sisters: Gwen Wheelock, Syracuse, and Lorraine (Bill) Obernesser, New Hartford; sisters-in-law: Beverly Wheelock, Shirley Dunn, brother-in-law Bernie Yelton, and special nieces Jean and Karen. Besides her husband Gordon, Joyce was pre-deceased by her sisters: Grace Johnson, Jean Wheelock, Thelma Romeo, brothers: Harold and George Wheelock, great-grandson Ryan Flansburg and great-granddaughter Avery Birgenheier. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28, at 11:00 am at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Jack Ford of the Boonville United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Boonville Cemetery. A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until the funeral. Those attending are respectfully asked to adhere to current CDC recommended protocols. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Boonville United Methodist Church, 105 Ann St. Boonville, NY 13309.
