Clinton - Joy M. Smith, 64, formerly of Turin, passed away peacefully on November 17 while surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 29, 1946, she was the daughter of Clarence and Jane (Jones) Curtis. She grew up in Turin, and graduated from South Lewis High School with the Class of 1964. On August 14, 1965, she was united in marriage with Lawrence F. Smith at the Turin United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Turin. Joy loved working with infants and younger children. She drove school bus for 14 years with the South Lewis School District; later, when the couple moved to North Carolina, she worked as a teacher's aide with the South Eastern Preschool Corp. of Wilmington, NC. Joy was a gardener and raised flowers. She was an avid crafter and enjoyed ceramics and quilting. In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she is survived by a grandson, Matthew Widman of Old Forge; a sister, Susan Curtis of Turin; two nephews, Ryan Curtis of Turin and nephew Matthew Manley of Syracuse; a niece, Michelle Manley of Syracuse; and an uncle, Richard Jones of Turin. She was predeceased by a son, Shawn Smith. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday November 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Turin United Methodist Church with Rev. Jill Farnham officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville. Contributions Joy's memory may be made to the Turin United Methodist Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, New York 13413.
