Josephine P. Herdman, 86, a former resident of Enos Road, Forestport, widow of James E., passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Boonville, after a long illness. Before entering the nursing home, Josephine had resided with her daughter and son in law, Janis and Ralph Bornemann, of Egypt Rd., Alder Creek. A native of Booths Corner, PA., she was born on February 13, 1921, a daughter of Jameison E. and Lila Weir Provan She grew up in Booth Corners, and graduated from high school in West Haverstraw, NY. She was employed in a jewelry store in Wilmington, DE. and then she was employed as a purchaser for "Notions," a section of the Woolworth Chain of 5 and 10 Cent Stores. Prior to moving to the Forestport area, the couple lived in Elam, PA., and in Glen Rock, N.J. On April 27, 1942, Josephine was united in marriage with James E. Herdman at Elkton, MD. Mr. Herdman a veteran of WWII, died on April 12, 1991. Mrs. Herdman was an active member of Forestport Presbyterian Church, the Forestport Garden Club, and she was active with the Up & Go Senior Citizens of Forestport. Before moving to Alder Creek, she had resided at Wheelock Estates and at Kortenear Village, both of Boonville, where she served as secretary of the board of Kortenear Village. She also enjoyed making crafts, raising plants, gardening, camping, canoeing, and was an accomplished bowler. She greatly enjoyed traveling, and for many years while living in PA. and NJ. she served as a girl scout leader. In addition to her daughter and son in law, Janis and Ralph Bornemann, Alder Creek, she is survived by two daughters and one son in law, Suzanne Cubberly and Howard, Ridgewood, NJ.,, Lisa Herdman, Lansdale, PA., seven grandchildren: Howard Cubberly, III, "Cub," Elizabeth (Beth) Olsen, James (Jim) Cubberly, Anneliese (Annie) Bornemann, Christine (Chris) Yatassaye, Ralph Bornemann, Jr., John Bornemann, six great grandchildrern: Howard George Cubberly, IV., Erik Olsen, Allison Olsen, Marie Yatassaye, Isabel Yatassaye, and Cynthia Yatassaye. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Stacey. Josephine loved her family, and she will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment in Alder Creek Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Forestport Presbyterian Church, or to American Cancer Society Oneida/Herkimer Branch Office 100 Lomond Place Utica, NY 13502.
