Port Leyden - Josephine E. Kohl, 87, widow of William T. Sr., longtime resident of the Moose River Road, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville. Josephine was born on April 3, 1928 in Utica, a daughter of John and Agnes Lowell Winn. She was raised in Chadwicks, where she was educated graduating with the Class of 1945. Following her education she was employed at A.D. Julliard Silk Manufacturing Co., Chadwicks, and for a short time she was employed at Melee Manufacturing Co., Utica. On September 8, 1956, Josephine was united in marriage with William T. Kohl at St. George's Episcopal Church, Chadwicks. The couple lived in the village of Port Leyden until they purchased a home on the Moose River Road. Mr. Kohl, a retiree of the Boonville Division of Ethan Allen Furniture Co. passed away on January 3, 1992. Above all, Jo cherished the special memories made with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the company of her cat, Annie, and was an avid reader. Every fall Jo found joy in canning tomatoes. She would then gift the fruits of her labor to family and friends. She also made wonderful spaghetti and chili sauce. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kohl, Utica, and her son and daughter-in-law, William T. Kohl, Jr. (Terry), Port Leyden; her grandchildren: Joshua Kohl, Becky (Greg) Williams, Sueann (Haywood) Edwards; her great-grandchildren: Thomas, Andrew, Carmen, Richie, Aliyah, Cristopher, Haywood, Jayden and Hailey. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, and best friend Wanda Winn, Sauquiot, brother-in-law Mike (Kay) Kohl, Remsen, and sister-in-law Helen Kohl, Boonville. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her foster parents Lucy and Claude Walker, and her brother Chet Winn and her sister Clara Cristello. The Kohl family would like to thank Dr. Lynn Pisaniello and the ER and ICU staff at Lewis County General Hospital, for the excellent and compassionate care given to Jo. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment will follow in Boonville Cemetery.
