Joseph W. Ostrowski

April 24, 1946 — March 5, 2011

Boonville- Joseph W. Ostrowski, 87, of Moose River Road, husband of Pauline, and a former resident of Schuyler St., passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. He was born in the Town of Montague, Lewis Co., on April 5, 1923, a son of Leon and Nellie Kandefer Ostrowski. He grew up in Montague, and graduated from Lowville Academy with the Class of 1941. In December 1943, Joseph entered the U.S. Army, serving in the European and Asiatic Pacific Theaters of WW II. He was honorably discharged on April 24, 1946, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. For 38 years he was employed as a Fork Lift Operator at Ethan Allen Furniture Co. Boonville. On August 29, 1970, Joseph was married to Pauline Hoffman at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. After that they lived on Schuyler St. for many years. Mr. Ostrowski was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid hunter, he enjoyed fishing, four wheeling and snowmobile riding, watching W.W.E. Wrestling, and attending polka festivals. He was a very talented wood craftsman, enjoyed working on his car and sharing jokes with people. In addition to his wife, Pauline, he is survived by one son, Thomas, Boonville; two sisters, Mary (Robert) Leviker, Lowville, and Victoria (T. Barry) Conway, Syracuse. He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Walter, Henry, and by two sisters, Sophie McCanney, and Pauline Stonebrink. His Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, with interment in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Visitation is Thursday 6-8 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, PO Box 64, Boonville, NY 13309.
