Joseph Vincent Chaufty, Jr.

Joseph V. Chaufty, Jr., age 74, died suddenly on Sunday, July 23, 2023. He was born on August 28, 1948, in Fort Knox, KY. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph V. Chaufty, Sr. and Barbara B. Chaufty; brother, John M. and only child, Joseph V. Chaufty, III.

Joseph is survived by his brother, James (Christine) of Port Leyden; sister, Kathleen (Marvie) Weaver, Mobile, Alabama; and companion of many years, Ruthann Kelly and her son, T.J. Kelly.

Joseph graduated from Port Leyden Central School, in 1966 and worked for many years as a machinist. He was an exceptional former mayor of Port Leyden and an avid cat lover and quite fond of raccoons. He was also an extraordinary cook. He won first place at the county fair for his pies.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Port Leyden with Rev. Daniel Chapin officiating.  Private graveside services in Calvary Cemetery will follow with his brother, Deacon James Chaufty officiating.  Arrangements are with Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church in Lyons Falls or St. Martin’s Catholic in Port Leyden.
