Joseph S. Marcinkowski

Boonville - Joseph S. Marcinkowski, Sr., 85, of Sudol Hill Road, passed away on July 10, 2008 at St. Luke's - Memorial Hospital Center after a long illness. He was born on May 1, 1923 at the family farm on Potato Hill to the late Joseph and Martha (Gurbacki) Marcinkowski. After graduating from Boonville High School in 1941, he ran the family dairy farm until he entered the U.S. Army in 1945. Upon his discharge from the Infantry in 1946 at the rank of Private First Class, he returned home and continued his work on the farm. On June 12, 1954, he was united in marriage with Rita Novak at Holy Trinity Church in Utica. The couple operated the farm until 1975. Joe's interest in people and the local area led him to work in the insurance and real estate businesses, and then on to a position as Assistant Manager of the Rome OTB Parlor, from where he retired in 1992. He was active in local government and held various political offices, including Town Councilman, County Legislator and Boonville Town Zoning Officer. Mr. Marcinkowski was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Boonville. He enjoyed downhill skiing and hunting whenever he could find a little leisure time. In addition to his wife, Rita, he is survived by three sons, David and his wife, Nannette, of Hudson, ME, Joseph, Jr., and James and his wife, Linda, and one granddaughter, Jenna, all of Boonville. He was predeceased by four brothers, Theodore, Wence, Walter and Louis, and one sister, Florence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, with the Rev. Donald Karlen as celebrant. Interment with military honors from Charles J. Love Post American Legion and Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours are Sunday, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
