Ava - Joseph Frank Dluzewski, 78, retired proprietor of Adirondack Bakery Equipment Company, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, after a brief illness. A native of Jamaica, Queens, he was born on February 15, 1930, a son of Francis and Helen Nalewajski Dluzewski. Joe grew up in Brooklyn, where he graduated from the New York School for Technical Training. At one time he was married to Mary Susczcynski. From 1951 until 1953, Mr. Dluzewski served in the 27th Infantry Regiment 25th Infantry Division United States Army - nicknamed the "Wolfhounds" - during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Korea for fourteen months and was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant. Mr. Dluzewski was a bakery engineer who owned and operated a bakery systems business that designed, manufactured, sold and installed systems worldwide. The firm was later known as the Adirondack Bakery Company. During his long career as proprietor he traveled throughout the United States and the world calling on many major bakeries. In 1969 he moved from Brooklyn to his present home in the Town of Ava, where he continued to operate his business. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, Boonville Council Knights of Columbus (as third degree knight), Charles J. Love Post #406 American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post #5538 VFW (as life member), Kiwanis Club of Boonville, and the American Society of Baking. For many years he greatly enjoyed traveling to reunions of the Wolfhounds. His companion, Emily Stamm, died in 1978. He later met Betty Swift, of Boonville, with whom he shared many years of travel and companionship. She passed away on January 19, 2008. He is survived by one daughter, Helen Dluzewski, Queens, NY; three sisters, Jean Karwoski, Floral Park, NY, Theresa Melesh, Seaford, NY and Helen Sowinski, Vineland, NJ; three nephews, Stephen Karwoski, who was also his godson, John Sowinski, Norristown, PA, and Robert Melesh, Queens, NY; six nieces, Teresa Terranova, Vineland, NJ, Jeannette Morgano, Mineola, Long Island, NY, Mary Setti, Sarasota, FL, Carol Bart, Wantagh, Long Island, NY, Christine Baumbach, Bethpage, Long Island, NY, and Mary Janas, Queens, NY; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph; a sister, Frances Janas; and a nephew, Walter Janas. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, and 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where Rev. Donald H. Karlen will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville, where members of Charles J. Love Post #406 American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post #5538 VFW, and the Tun Tavern Leatherneck Marine Corps League will conduct military rites. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
