Jon R. Hansen

Jon Hansen, of Boonville and formerly of Old Forge, passed away on September 26, 2018. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut May 8, 1937, the son of Robert H. and Regina Miller Hansen. On November 22, 1958 he married Carol Moore of Utica, in St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford. In 1971, he moved with his wife and three children to Old Forge where he worked in construction. Jon opened The Old Forge Woodmaker Furniture and Gifts on Main Street where his personally handcrafted furniture was sold to customers locally and around the country. During his forties, he became motivated in long distance running through Adirondack trails. He ran with the Striders of Barneveld and also ran many Marathons. He was a councilman on the Town of Webb Board for four years, a member of Kiwanis Club of the Central Adirondacks. He was also a member of the Covey-Pashley Post 893 American Legion in Old Forge. He was predeceased by his wife Carol of 58 years. He was predeceased by his parents and beloved granddaughter, Alyssa Carol Hansen, who passed away in 2007. He is survived by his son Robert (Christine), Westmoreland, and two daughters, Kelly Santamour (Tim) of Floyd and Susan Hansen of New Haven, CT. He also leaves his grand-daughters Sheila Stine, Hollie Haley, and Erika Doolen along with a grandson Avery Jon Hansen. He also leaves his sister, Barbara McDonnell of Rumford, R.I. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 1, at 10:00 am, at St. Josephs Church, Charles St. Boonville, with Rev. Thomas Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland Union Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box #682, Lowville, NY 13367, or to the Humane Society of Rome, P.O. Box #4572, Rome, NY 13442.
