Port Leyden - Johney E. Rogers, Jr., 49, of Marmon Road, passed away unexpectedly on Sat. August 17, 2019, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Johney was born on March 19, 1970 in Lowville, a son of Johney E. and Deborah Kohl Rogers. He was raised in Port Leyden and was a graduate of South Lewis Senior High School. On September 11, 1990 Johney enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge on October 16, 1991. He then returned to Port Leyden where he was then employed with the Sargents Furniture Co., Boonville, Stihls Sawmill, Ava, and at the cheese factory in Dadville. Johney then obtained his Class A. CDL and was employed as a truck driver, first for Shue Bros., Port Leyden, and most recently for V.S. Virkler & Sons, Inc., Lowville. Johney also operated a snowplow for the Town of Lyonsdale for one winter. A marriage to Patricia Nagy ended in divorce. Johney found great joy collecting antiques, vintage tools, and old metal work. He was an avid reader of all genres. Johney is survived by his son Johney E. Rogers, III; his daughter Ember Elizabeth Ann Rogers, parents Johney & Deborah Rogers, all of Port Leyden, his nephew Zachary (Lexi Sargent) Rogers, Rome, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Jody Rogers on January 20, 2016, paternal grandparents: Alton & Norah Rogers, and maternal grandparents: Andrew & Helen Kohl. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat. August 24, from 2-5 pm at his parents home, 6741 Rugg Road, Port Leyden. There are no calling hours. Memorial Contributions may be directed to his children at the service on Saturday. Funeral Arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
