Boonville- John L. "Jack" McPhilmy, 76, of Boone St., passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the Premier Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Jacksonville, North Carolina. Since November, 2015, Jack had resided in the Jacksonville area to be close to his daughter Erinn. He was born in Constableville, on June 7, 1940, a son of Redmond and Rose Marie Kelly McPhilmy. Jack grew up in Constableville, where he attended elementary school. At the age of 11, he moved with his parents to the Tamaracks Private Fish & Game Club on the Hogsback Road, near Hawkinsville. He graduated from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1958; while in high school, Jack excelled in playing Soccer, Basketball and Baseball. In June, 1958, Mr. McPhilmy joined the U.S. Navy and during his entire naval career he was stationed at Groton, CT, where he was a submariner. He served on many submarines, traveling all over the world, including an excursion which went completely under the artic regions in the northern top of the world. In 1978, Mr. McPhilmy was honorably discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. On September 14, 1968, Jack was united in marriage with Linda Satterly in Syracuse. After Jack retired the couple resided on Erwin St. for many years, before moving to Boone St. Mrs. McPhilmy, a Boonville hairdresser, passed away on May 8, 2007. After retirement from the Navy, he was employed in furnace repair work for Ron Cyr at Adirondack Oil Co., Boonville, before many years of employment as a logger for De Forest "Bud" Flansburg, Fish Creek; later he operated his own logging business and for several years Jack and the late Chet Kopczenski were partners in a logging business. Later he was employed for Rene Heroux, at Singing Waters Camp Ground, Old Forge. Mr. McPhilmy was also employed for Denley Association at Hydro Electric Power Dam on the Black River; during that time he was also employed in logging with the late Irving Hawes and for many years he served as custodian at the Boonville United Methodist Church. He was also employed as a driver for Apple Blossom Floral Shoppe, Boonville. Jack was a member of the Boonville United Methodist Church, where he was an active participant in the Walk to Emmaus. He was a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion Post # 406, Harland J. Hennessy Post VFW, the Holland Club, for retired submariners, Boonville-Uriel Masonic Lodge # 165 F & AM, Boonville Rod & Gun Club, White Otter Fish & Game Club, Woodgate. Jack was an avid outdoorsman who lived for hunting, fishing and trapping. Jack will be very fondly remembered by a host of friends as a person who was greatly gifted with a great sense of Irish wit and humor; his endless humor and storytelling brightened the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his children, Daniel F. (Patty) McPhilmy, Boonville, Paul B. McPhilmy, Denver, Co; and Erinn E. (Jermey) Lundgren, Jacksonville, NC; five grandchildren, Bryce, Hannah and Hailey Lundgren, Sam and Owen McPhilmy and their mother Wendy Moxley, Boonville; two sisters, Mary Putney, Marion TX and Sharon (Dennis) Gillett, Boonville; several nieces and nephews and a huge host of friends. His Funeral will be Friday, July 29, at 11:00 A.M. at Boonville United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in Boonville Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 1-4 & 6-8 at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Members of Boonville-Uriel Masonic Lodge # 165 F&AM will meet in a group for a Masonic Service, on Wednesday July 27, at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
