John E. Dragon

Boonville- John E. Dragon, 64, a long time resident of Merry Hill Road, passed away unexpectedly at his residence, on Saturday, January 25, 2014. He was born in Rome, on March 30, 1949, a son of Joseph M and Anna Borwick Dragon. He grew up at the Dragon homestead on Jackson Hill and graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1968. For many years John was employed as a logger and tree cutter for I. B. E.W. Union Local # 1249, Syracuse, NY, working for Nelson, Lewis and Asplundh Tree Services in tree cutting and maintenance for utility companies. He was also employed in tree cutting services for the City of Rome. For the past 20 years, until the summer of 2013, John owned and operated JED's Tree Service of Boonville, removing many trees throughout the Boonville area. He married Debbie Yelton and later the couple was divorced. He was of the Catholic Faith. He enjoyed participating in the Boonville Oneida Co. Fair Demolition Derby, and in the fair Truck Pull, attending the Fly Wheel & Pulley's Show at Constableville, working on vintage cars, doing cross word puzzles; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Thomas Dragan, in 1974, and by his twin brother, James E, who died in infancy. John was a loving father, husband and grandpa. He is survived by his two children, Jodie (Steve) Sharp, Fredericksburg, VA, Joel (Amber) Dragon, Boonville; grandchildren, Jordan, Ryan, Blake and Gaviyon Dragon, Shelby Simpson and Kyla Sharp; his sisters and brother, Joann (Dick) Satterly, Boonville, Patricia (Wayne) Ferguson, Utica, Donald (Teresa) Dragon, Constableville, Sondra Vunk, Holland Patent, Mary Lou (Angelo) Moschetti, Canastota, Jeannette Speciale, Utica and Rita Kirk, of North Carolina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. "John, you will be greatly missed by all who knew you and loved you. R.I.P. J.E.D." His Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien will officiate. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 120 Lomond CT.
