John A Wawrzyniak

John A. Wawrzyniak, 87, of State Rt. 12D, husband of Lucy, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012, at his residence, while under the loving care of his wife and family. John was born in the Town of Montague on June 22, 1925, a son of Vincent and Tillie Milewski Wawrzyniak, Sr. He received his education in the Town of Montague, where he later was employed by the town highway department as a heavy equipment and snowplow operator. From 1944, until his honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1946, Mr. Wawrzyniak served in the Infantry of the U.S. Army, in the European Theater of WWII. On October 6, 1951, John was united in marriage with Lucy Cavanaugh at St. Mary's Church, Constableville. This was a loving and enduring union lasting nearly sixty one years. After their marriage, the couple lived on Rt.12 D at Locust Grove, moving to their present home near Talcottville, in 1961. For many years John was employed as an independent truck owner and operator in logging, and road construction. Mr. Wawrzyniak was a member of St. Hedwig's Church, Houseville, since 1951, and the couple also attended St. Mary's Nativity Church, West Leyden. He was a life member of Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW Post # 5538, Boonville, and he had enjoyed bowling with Boonville area bowling teams. John was a fan of NASCAR Racing, and # 24 Jeff Gordon, NASCAR Driver. He owned two stockcars that were raced at the Watertown Speedway. For many years John and Lucy greatly enjoyed spending time with their family at their camp in the Town of Montague. They especially enjoyed snowmobiling and 4 wheeling at Montague. In addition to his wife, Lucy, John is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Vincent, and five sisters, Sophie Brouty, Jenny Kafline, Helen, Sylvia and Mary Wawrzyniak. His Funeral will be Thursday at 12 Noon at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:15 PM at St. Hedwig's Church, Houseville. Interment with military rites from Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW, and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville. Visitation hours are Thursday 10:00 AM - 12 Noon at the funeral home.
