John was born in Rome, on May 3, 1953, a son of Marian Peters Bielawski. He grew up in Rome, before moving with his family to the Belcher Road, Point Rock. John began his schooling in Rome, later attending West Leyden Central School, before graduating from Adirondack Central High School, Boonville, with the Class of 1971. While in school John enjoyed playing soccer. He was first employed at Stihl's Saw Mill Ava, followed by employment at Felice Moving & Storage, Rome and Rome Iron Mills. For 43 years until his retirement in 2015, John was employed as a caster at Revere Copper & Brass, now Revere Copper Products of Rome, NY. On June 26, 1971, John was united in marriage with Dorothy Cullings, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Rome. John and Dottie joyfully observed their Golden Anniversary in June of 2021. John was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. He was also a very accomplished can and bottle recycler who found great enjoyment while scouring the roads for discarded cans and bottles and then bagging the same and delivering to a recycling center. For many years John made his part of the world cleaner and neater through his recycling efforts. If he observed someone else picking up cans in a given location, John would often remark with a twinkle in his eye and humor, that that person had encroached on his territory! For a time, Mr. Bielawski was a member of the Lee Center Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his wife, Dottie, John is survived by one daughter, Crystal Bielawski, Lee Center, grandchildren, Krista (Dominique) Griggs, Liverpool, Carissa Hayes, Lee Center, Christopher (Taylor) Hayes, Rome, five great grandchildren, Samantha, Aria, Damian, Jazmynn and Vincenzo.
