Boonville - Joan M. (Moore) Yager, 77, widow of Owen "Okie" Yager, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville. A daughter of George Sr. and Mildred Nickerson Moore, she was born in Utica on October 22, 1934. In her younger years Joan very much enjoyed dancing to tap and jazz music. She grew up in Utica, where she attended school. On March 6, 1954 she was united in marriage with Owen "Okie" Yager. Mr. Yager passed away on May 21, 1996. She was a member of Hawkinsville United Methodist Church. In July of 1959 the couple moved to the Boonville area, and purchased the family farm on the Hayes Road near Hawkinsville. Besides working on the farm with her husband, Joan loved working in her flower beds. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family and many others besides her own. Her family and friends greatly loved her cooking, mainly her spaghetti, and chicken and noodles. Joan is survived by her eight children: Linda (Randy) Barrow, Thomas (Bonnie) Yager, Barbara (Denny) Fruin, Mark Yager, and Dennis (Heather) Yager, all of Boonville; Julie Taylor, Woodgate, Billie Jo (Dennis) Knoblauch, Constableville, Leisa (John) Eaton, Lee Center. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 33, great-grand children, who affectionatley called "Candy Grandma" and one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Shirley Wilson, Syracuse. Joan was predeceased by a brother George Moore, Jr., one son-in-law William "Bear" Taylor, a grandson Darrell Fruin, and a great-granddaughter Abigail Kelly. Her Funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment in Hayes Cemetery, Hawkinsville. Calling hours are Tuesday 4-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville Fire Co. Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 64, Boonville, NY 13309.
