Forestport - Joan A. Butler, 79, long time resident of Kirkland Road, widow of Robert W., passed away on Saturday July 6, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford. Joan was born on March 6, 1934 in Higginsville, a daughter of Esiah and Leah Suits Hyland. She grew up and completed her education in Durhamville. For a time, Joan lived in Rome and was employed as a dietician and cook at Rose Hospital. Joan was united in marriage with Robert W. Butler on April 19, 1953 in Hagerstown, Maryland. The couple permanently moved to Forestport, and settled on Kirkland Road in 1970; afterwards she was employed as a cook at the Buffalo Head Restaurant and the Wigwam. Mr. Butler, an auto salesman and veteran of WWII passed away on October 30, 2000. Joan had a passion for cooking got much enjoyment from sharing her talent with others. She will fondly be remembered by many for her Christmas cookies, which she loved to give out during the holiday season. Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Sharon A. and David G. Lloyd, Forestport; two sisters-in-law, Margaret B. Hanshew, Rome, and Carol A. Palomo, Vallejo, CA. Besides her husband, Joan was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Wendt and her brother Elverton Hyland. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 12, at 10: 00 A.M., at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, with interment to follow in Woodgate Cemetery, Woodgate. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Rome Humane Society 6247 Lamphear Road Rome, NY 13440.
