Jerome M. 'Jerry' Pfendler

~~Clinton- Jerome M. Pfendler, 78, husband of Catherine, passed away at his residence on Thursday, December 7, 2017. He was born in Boonville, on January 3, 1939, a son of Walter T. and Edith Ruth Roberts Pfendler. Jerome grew up on Post St. in Boonville and graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1956. Thereafter he furthered his education at Clarkson University, Potsdam, graduating with the Class of 1960, with a Bachelor degree in chemical engineering. For three years, Jerome served in the New York State National Guard. He was first employed at Revere Copper & Brass of Rome as a metal tester and in chemical analysis. For over 27 years, until retiring in April, 2016, Mr. Pfendler was employed as a civil engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation in Syracuse. Jerome greatly enjoyed a life interest in horses and horse racing. For 25 years he trained horses at Vernon Downs. For several years he lived in Orlando Florida during the winters where he trained race horses at Seminole Raceway. On December 16, 1977, Jerome was united in marriage with Catherine A. Sutliff in Sanford, Florida. Jerome greatly enjoyed running in the Boilermaker 15K Road Race, the Falling Leaves 14K Road Race and many other 5 and 10 K races. He also enjoyed reading and working on cross word puzzles and was a Syracuse University Basketball fan. In addition to his wife, Catherine, Jerome is survived by two daughters, Erin M. Pfendler, Sylvan Beach, Lauren K. Pfendler, US Airforce, stationed at Anchorage, AK; two sisters, Phyllis R. Pfendler and Mary Louise Witt, both of Boonville; two nephews, Tony Douque, Boonville and Michael (Mary) Witt, Alexandria Bay; and a grandniece, Makayla Witt, Alexandria Bay. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Douque, in 2009. A Memorial Service will be Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St, Boonville, where a visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Stevens Swan Humane Society 5664 Horatio St. Utica, NY 13501.
