Jerome J. Wilbert

West Leyden- Jerome J. Wilbert, 88, a life long resident of the Osceola Road, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Rome Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. He was born on the Wilbert Homestead Farm, at Prussian Settlement in the Town of Lewis, on March 10, 1920, a son of William W. and Anna Kirk Wilbert. Jerome graduated from West Leyden Central School, and during WWII he served his country in the U.S. Navy. On January 13, 1945, at St. Mary's Church, West Leyden, Jerome was united in marriage with Florence J. Mullen, of New York City, who at the time of their marriage was serving as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy. After their honorable discharge from the Navy the couple settled on his parent's farm on the Osceola Road, which the couple operated from 1946, until they retired, in 1972, and moved to their present home at West Leyden. Florence died on December 5, 1983. On September 29, 1984, he was married to Violet M. Urtz at St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center; she died on July 22, 1988. On February 15, 1992, he was married to Jessie Williamson at St. Mary's Church, West Leyden. She died on June 17, 2006. Mr. Wilbert was a life member of St. Mary's Church, West Leyden, and for many years he was superintendent of St. Mary's Cemetery, Prussian Settlement. He was a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Boonville, and he greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jerome is survived by one daughter and son in law; Susie Iseneker, and Robert, Lee Center, two sons; Wayne, Springfield, LA., Dennis Kasilof, AK. He was predeceased by two sons; Keith, in 1983, Gary, 1988, and by a daughter in law; Natalie, 1994. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many step children, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren, two brothers; Norbert, West Leyden, Donald and wife Pat, Fla., and one sister, Marjorie Edwards, Grant, NY. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard L. and a sister Marie Nellenback. His family wishes to express their heart felt thanks and appreciation to the nursing staff on floor 2 North at Rome Memorial Hospital, for all of their kind and compassionate care rendered to Jerome. His Funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, West Leyden, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military rites from Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., and the Tun Tavern Leather Neck Marine Corps League will follow at St. Mary's Church, West Leyden. Calling hours are Friday 2-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
