Jeannette A. Nellenback

Jeannette A. Edick Nellenback, a long time resident of Main St. widow of Edmund M. Nellenback, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, June 21, 2006. A native of Alder Creek, Jeannette was born on July 3, 1916, a daughter of John and Alice Alvord Edick. She grew up on Main St. in Boonville, and graduated from Boonville High School, where she participated in sports and musical events. Thereafter she attended and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from University of Michigan, at Ann Arbor. Later she earned her Masters Degree in education. On August 9, 1947, Jeannette was united in marriage with Edmund M. Nellenback at St. Josephï¿(TM)s Church, Boonville. Mr. Nellenback died on June 26, 1986. Her extensive teaching career began at Flint Michigan from there she taught history at McGraw Central School, McGraw, NY. Mrs. Nellenback retired in 1977, after thirty three years of teaching history at Remsen Central High School. About her teaching career, Mrs. Nellenback often commented that she "never taught a student that she did not like, and she always held high expectations of every child." Following her retirement, Mrs. Nellenback served as a member and President of the Adirondack School Board of Education for a total of fifteen years, retiring in 1995. An accomplished, versatile musician, she served as organist at the First Baptist Church of Boonville for over fifty years, while also serving her community as the "on call accompanist" for all area churches. In 1976, Jeannette, along with Peg Nuspliger, founded the Adirondack Community Chorus, serving as accompanist for twenty five years, along with being accompanist for the Adirondack Central School Junior High Chorus. During these years she provided music for the residents at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville. Jeannette was a founder and past President of the Dodge- Pratt-Northam Art and Community Center of Boonville, for many years serving as a volunteer at the center. Her other civic endeavors included: Boonville Historical Society since 1965, Chairperson for Boonville Republican Committee, a board member of Matthews Place Ministries, Charles J. Love Post American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of American Revolution for 50 years, treasurer, trustee and pianist for North Steuben Church, and trustee of the North Steuben Cemetery Association. Her family members include; two nieces and nephew; Marilynn, Clay, NY., Jeannette, Springfield, MA., Douglas Forziati, actively stationed in Naples, Italy, U. S. Navy, great nephews; Jeffrey, David, great nieces, Gina Forziati, and Christine Garforth, great great nieces, Ariel and Georgia Garforth. Jeannetteï¿(TM)s family expresses their heart felt thanks and appreciation to the "Care Givers" whom she dearly loved. A student once said to Mrs. Nellenback, "You try to make the world a little better for having gone through it". And indeed she did. Her funeral services will be on Tuesday at 1 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Boonville, with interment to follow in St. Josephï¿(TM)s Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours are Monday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
